The 4WD switch has 3 modes. It has 2 position selector switch (AUTO-2WD) with a rocker action to select LOCK mode. 1) Auto is the normal everyday mode. Torque transfers to the rear wheels automatically and with no driver input, as and when required. The system is predictive and based on a number of sensors and inputs from the ESP system can predict and respond to wheel spin situations. All mode 4x4-i is superior because most competitors have a system that only transfers torque after front wheels start to spin. 2) 2WD is Front Wheel Drive only – no torque is transferred to the rear wheels if the customer desires to run in 2WD mode only. 3) Lock transfers torque to the rear axle for off-road conditions at speeds up to 40km/h. Torque distribution is 50:50. As soon as the vehicle is restarted or exceeds a speed above 40km/h the 4WD returns to Auto mode. Lock can be engaged at lower speeds, evenly distributing drive between front and rear wheels to prevent loss of traction. On loose/slippery surfaces (dirt, sand, mud, snow, etc.) when wheel spin is expected, the driver can direct drive to all four wheels using 4WD lock mode, with a 50/50 torque split between the front and rear. When in Auto mode, to set Lock mode, the driver must press the button down. The 4WD lock indicator light comes on.
