If a collision should occur, the active head restraints reduce the risk of the seat occupant suffering what is known as a ‘whiplash’ injury to the upper spine or neck. When the car is struck violently from the rear, a mechanical lever system integrated into the seat back swings the head restraint forward and thus reduces its distance from the back of the seat occupant’s head.
